Random Thoughts

Today is my last day with my family in Vegas. It has been such a great time but I'm ready to get back to El Paso. I have so many classes, volunteer obligations and events happening this month that that it will be May before I know it. As of right now we have a date of 29 May for Kyle's Change on Command and we are beyond excited. He will start inventories at the beginning of May and I will actively be planning the reception. I will have the main food catered but the desserts will be all made my me.

Speaking of Kyle, he told me tonight that he was chosen to receive an AAM (Army Achievement Medal) for all his hard work during his latest training event. He was incredibly modest about it and tried so hard to give it to someone else but they knew he deserved it. I am so proud of him for not only being an amazing soldier but for also being a humble person. He does not do this job for accolades or praise, he does it because he is proud. He loves his job and he loves the people that he works with and for.

Yesterday the weather was gorgeous here so we all planted flowers for Easter at my Dad's house. My Mom always loved having flowers planted for Easter, so we did it in her honor as well.

This is the house that I was born and raised in and I can't imagine my Dad living anywhere else. It has been so amazing being here with my family. We have had a great time. :)

In a few days I will post a full recap of my trip. I hope you all have a great day!

  3. The CoC is the day before my birthday! Ill be sure to remember! I hope he doesn't hate his life after the inventories. Hubs makes them sound miserable. And he's only ever done them as XO. Congrats on the award as well!! Can't wait to see what you come up with for dessert!

  19. I can't believe your dad still lives in the same house you grew up in. Every time we visit my home town I swing by and it's always emotional for me. Things were so different back then. Not better, just different. So cool you still have it in your family. And what a great way to remember your mom. It's a beautiful home.

  20. My parents still live in the house that I've grown up in as well, even though I don't feel comfortable being there any more (for some family reasons). I am so happy for you that you had such a good time visiting with your family and got to take part in a ritual in memory of your mom. And congrats to Kyle in the award! I bet he more than deserved it, even though the good guys never think they do. Richard got a lot of general's medals as part of the band when he was still in. He sent them all to his Dad because he never thought he deserved them and knew his Dad would love having them. Have a save trip back home!!

  26. Glad you are having a good time with family and planting flowers in honor of your mother. That's so special. I like your family's house. Memories for sure. Cherish them. My mom loves flowers and once in awhile I humor her and bring her some where she lives in the nursing home. Now that Megan is working at the tulip farm she can get free bunch of tulips for each day she works. Of course I have some and she will bring some for grandma tomorrow so I can take them on Friday. Have a good rest of the trip with your family and I'm sure you are looking forward to seeing Kyle again. Congrats to him on his award. Of course he deserves it, Hugs!
