We are finally getting a few last things done around the house. We didn't want to pay for everything to get done after we moved in because we thought that would be overwhelming. The first thing on our list was to find a blind for our front door and the window above the door:
Let me just tell you that no store carries an 81" blind. We had to have it custom made and thanks to a coupon code online we got it for less than $90. Now we just have to find a blind for the window above the door. Hopefully we will be successful this weekend.
Next on our list is replacing all of the light bulbs. We are changing them all to the energy efficient, this could get pricy because we have somewhere around 50 light bulbs in the house haha. I know it needs to be done so maybe we can use the Sears giftcard we have to check that off the list.
I am also still searching for curtains for our bathroom. There is a huge frosted glass picture window and a smaller one. I have searched high and low for curtains but I guess I'm too picky for my own good lol. It's not a huge priority since no one goes in there except us.
Since we are getting close to spring I want to plant a garden in the backyard, I want to have some fresh vegetables and herbs. Hopefully this is a project we can get started in the next few weeks or so. Praying I can actually grow something since I am notorious for killing plants. :) I would love something like this:
Since we get such high winds here we noticed last weekend that we were getting a bit of a whistling noise from the bottom of the front and back doors. We found them at Bed Bath and Beyond, so for $14.99 we don't have that whistling noise anymore haha. I had always seen those draft guards on TV but never thought they would actually work:
They are AWESOME! The whistling noise is gone and the tile near the door is not as freezing. I highly recommend them.
Well, I hope you all are enjoying your Friday! :) Have a great weekend!
Oh, I love those door things, lol. They're simple, cheap, and VERY effective. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck curtain shopping. I think it's hard to find just the right ones too.
Im going to have to get one of those draft guards. I feel a breeze coming through our door and im sure it would knocked some money off of our utility bill also.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad those draft things worked for you, because they were awful for us!! As for light bulbs, look up the policy in your state (not sure if its only a CT thing but Home Depot here has 3 packs of energy efficient bulbs for 97 cents). States really want people to switch over!
ReplyDeleteI want to garden this year too, despite me killing everything, haha. I'm horrible when it comes to curtain shopping. I've got to the point where I find it easier to go find a fabric and make them myself. Good luck finding something, I'm glad the home-improvements are coming along!
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to do a garden box too... you'll have to keep us updated on that project!
ReplyDeleteI definitely will! :) Just hope I don't kill everything haha.
DeleteGood to know those door things work!
ReplyDelete1. You can find multi-packs (like 20 bulbs) of energy efficient bulbs. And you don't want to use them in places where you'll be quickly turning the lights on and off. They actually use more energy in short time frames.
ReplyDelete2. Raised flower beds with potting soil are the way to go. We had one last year, and we had produce for like six months.
Good luck in the garden - be sure to post plenty of photos so I can live vicariously though you! Have you thought about making some curtains for the bathroom? I've seen some no sew tutorials on Pinterest, or if you sew you could probably whip up some simple cafe curtains in an afternoon. Just an idea.
ReplyDeleteOoo we need one of those draft guards. Did you get it at a store or online?
ReplyDeleteThose door things will be GREAT when the windy season really hits! We get the worst sand trackmarks at our doors!
ReplyDeleteAgh ... the sounds of a successful Saturday! Home improvements are fun. Just wish I wanted to improve our condo.
ReplyDeleteWe are turning it back into our rental once we move. Agh.

Your house is so purty :)
ReplyDeleteLove the door guard idea but wish they made them for the sliding glass doors. We live on post and the sliding glass door has settled so that now it is crooked and quite drafty.
ReplyDeleteI am awful with indoor plants as well, but really want to try a small planter garden this Spring.
ReplyDeleteLove this!! Hope you have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the whisteling went away! That would have drove me mad!

It was driving us crazy haha. :)
DeleteI kill plants too! I try every year thinking we'll have a wonderful garden, but it always turns out the same. Dead plants. Good luck with window treatments! If you need help sewing some we can totally have a crafting party!
ReplyDeleteThis is so off topic but I'm stopping over from Megs7827's blog and I wanted to tell you how nice it is to find other blogs out there talking about fertility struggles. Obviously I wish I was finding you under different circumstances but I'm looking forward to following along and hopefully both of us will get to become Mommys sooner than later :) Take care :)
ReplyDeleteI want one of those draft things I'll have to go get one, our front door has an opening on the bottom and all I can think about is cockroaches
ReplyDeleteWhat about using curtains for the door/window?
ReplyDeleteWe got a blind for the door and I think we will get a curtain for the window. :)
DeleteI seriously love your house so much!
ReplyDeleteI tried a garden box thing like that last year and I couldn't get it to work. Hopefully you have better luck than me and my black thumb.
Have a great weekend! Hope you guys are able to knock some stuff of the list.
Your house is awesome!! I am both looking forward and dreading decorating ours once it's been built. Love your entrance, it's so classic but also modern...
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie! :) We got very lucky with our home. :) Can't wait to see yours once it's built. :)
DeleteIt looks so nice! Those door things I think I need too! It has been so windy here lately and all the doors keep banging and makiig funny noises. OMG over 50 light bulbs. Good luck changing them! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your shopping adventures! Love the garden idea. You should check out Anne Marie at the household6diva, she's gardening in El Paso and shares some helpful gardening tips. :) Love those draft guards! We use one and it makes such a difference! :)
