Even though Kyle and I were tremendously sad over the loss of Emma (here is a link in case you missed the previous post) we still wanted to celebrate his birthday to the fullest on Saturday.
E and I were up bright and early to watch Kyle participate in the CGSC Sprint Triathlon. It was perfect because it was on post and we could walk to the start line. It consisted of a 200 yard indoor swim, 12 mile bike ride, and a 5k run. Of course we had our sign which was a huge hit.
We were able to watch him at every transition point. It started with the swim. We watched him start and then headed outside to watch him head to the transition for the bike.
He finished the swim pretty quickly and then headed off the biking portion. I didn't get a photo of him leaving but I got one when he finished. He said it was 12 miles of hills haha. We figured that would be the case since pretty much all of Fort Leavenworth is hills.
Next was the run, which I couldn't imagine running at swimming and biking. My legs would be spent. He did amazing though!
When all was said and done he finished in 1 hour and 19 minutes. I am so proud of him for taking tis on and accomplishing this goal. We had the best time cheering everyone on with friends.
Later in the day we headed off to his birthday dinner, well more of a later lunch. We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant. The staff knows us now and expects to see us weekly haha. Of course there has to be a sombrero photo. Even E got in on the fun.
After we ate, it was a such a beautiful day that we pulled out the water table for E and let her play for a while. She loved it!
We ended the night with cake and ice cream. He was able to FaceTime with family to open gifts and it was awesome.
I think despite the circumstances, Kyle had a good birthday.
Glad you and Kyle had a nice birthday weekend in spite of sadness of losing Emma. The sombereos are fun and great 🎂 you made. Hugs to you all.
