We are back from our trip to New Orleans! We got there Saturday afternoon, checked into our hotel and made our way to the French Quarter. It started to rain so we ducked into a daiquiri bar and enjoyed the scenery and the people watching, oh and the daiquiris lol.
Once the rain let up we continued walking and it is definitely an interesting place. I have to say it reminded me of Vegas only with crazier people (however they don't bother anyone they just keep to themselves).
Once the rain let up we continued walking and it is definitely an interesting place. I have to say it reminded me of Vegas only with crazier people (however they don't bother anyone they just keep to themselves).
We walked along the Mississippi River, grabbed some dinner and met up with a tour guide for a history tour. It was amazing to learn about all the quirks and eccentricities of this city especially regarding Voodoo (which really isn't what people think it is). After the tour was over we grabbed some more drinks and headed back to the hotel.
I took these photos during the tour in front of the St. Louis Cathedral, we saw a military wedding second-line parade and it was awesome! The bottom right picture you can see the huge group of people in the parade. :)
Saturday morning we were up bright and early to grab breakfast at Cafe Du Monde. It was well worth the wait in line to enjoy these amazing beignets! It was so fun to sit in this cafe that has so much history, I mean the city of New Orleans has so much history, it's really remarkable.
I picked up that awesome Forest Gump shirt too, I thought it was only fitting haha.
After breakfast we headed over to the WWII Museum, if you have never been definitely put it on your bucket list because it is absolutely extraordinary! It has 3 separate buildings full of exhibits, a final submarine mission experience as well as a 45 minute movie called "Beyond All Boundaries". It took us almost 5 hours to go through and it was worth every second.
Afterwards we got caught in a downpour and basically ran back to the hotel to dry off haha. Once the rain stopped we ventured out again to walk Bourbon street and enjoy the scenery. We were supposed to have dinner at one of Emeril's restaurant but after a disappointing experience we left before we even got our meals.
Once we left we went to Harrah's for a little gambling and even came out on top which is rare, haha. Another trip to Cafe Du Monde happened and then we found an awesome piano bar/lounge called Pat O'Briens and spent the rest of the night there, we sang and danced until well after 1am. It was awesome!
Yesterday morning we slept in a bit, grabbed breakfast at the hotel and checked out the Aquarium of the Americas before we headed home.
Awesome trip by the sounds of it! Glad the rain didn't dampen the trip! And hurrah for getting time with your man!! ;)
ReplyDeleteNew Orleans is SUCH a fun city, right. Y'all totally did it up the right way and I'm so glad you were able to go to Cafe Du Monde [so yummy] and the WW2 museum. My husband and I spent 4 hours there, it is soooooo amazing. I'm sorry about Emirl's what happened? We were thinking of going when we get down to NOLA later this year.
ReplyDeleteGreat recap, friend :)!
So fun! I'm dying to visit there someday! :) Also, it's weird seeing the MS River elsewhere, haha! I'm only used to seeing it in St. Louis, MO when we drive through there... so it seems out of place to me (though I know it's not - I just haven't been there). I love the running shirt! :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a fantastic time full of fun activities! I would love to visit one day.
ReplyDeleteI loved following along with your trip on IG and Facebook!! Looks like you had so much fun together!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had such a wonderful weekend!! Looks like it was a blast!
ReplyDeleteSound like a great trip. Glad you enjoyed yourselves!
ReplyDeleteThanks friend! It was such a fun trip. :)
DeleteYour trip looks awesome! How far away is it from Polk? Weekends together is the best- glad you guys had a great time!
ReplyDeleteDid Kyle have a 3 day weekend from that competition thing that went on at Polk last week?
ReplyDeleteSounds like some much needed quality time was had. Glad you enjoyed yourselves!
ReplyDeleteThat shirt is awesome and totally fitting :) Sounds like a great time was had!
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures! So happy that you had a great trip. The t-shirt is definitely fitting :-) Are you going to wear it for your next race??
ReplyDelete:) I think I just might!
DeleteLooks like an Awesome time in NOLA to me!!!
ReplyDelete:) It really was!!
DeleteI was surprised at how bad the service is in New Orleans. And beignets are definitely worth a second trip. If y'all go back, the zoo has beignet fries. And a bar.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the WWII museum. The only thing that I do not like about it is the potential of any of the precious memorabilia inside being lost in a hurricane (which could happen any year). After living through Katrina, I worry about things like that. Pat O'Brien's is legendary girl! When you return, you should check out the Garden District off St. Charles. The homes down there are beautiful. Your sister and you should go to Victory - great cocktails and a cool bar right downtown - ask anyone down there and they can give you directions. Oh and my favorite restaurant down there is Vincent's. If you like Italian, this place is amazing and a carb paradise...not really great on the diet, but hey, it's NOLA. You'd also enjoy the voodoo museum; kind of creepy but a hoot with friends. I'm glad you enjoyed and hope you have fun again! I used to make my way down there allllll the time back in the day. Something about that city, like you said - it's like Vegas. What happens in NOLA, stays in NOLA. Haha, or at least my stories do! ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, it would be devastating is any of that memorabilia was lost in a hurricane. Thanks for the suggestions of places to go! :)
DeleteIt looks like you had a whole lot of fun! My grandparents live in MS, but I fly into NOLA to visit. We always make time for beignets. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great weekend! I've been to NOLA once and I wish I could go back. The food is so good!
ReplyDeleteI've only been to New Orleans once - it was for a (nerd alert) Model UN Conference while I was in college. It was fun but I'd love to go back and do more of the historical stuff!
ReplyDeleteThat's not nerdy at all! :) All of the history is really amazing.
DeleteSounds like so much fun. My husband used to live in Louisiana, he absolutely loved it!
ReplyDeleteIt's such an awesome place, we love living so close to it.
DeleteWhat a great trip!!
ReplyDeleteI think if I went to NOLA, I'd eat way too many beignets!
I would love to visit New Orleans. The history there is remarkable. I have heard that Emeril's restaurants aren't that great
ReplyDeleteFun! One day I hope to get there.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do too! It's amazing.
DeleteYay!!! I am so glad you guys had fun. New Orleans is one of my very favorite cities! I cannot wait to get back to Georgia so we can make more trips down there. The fooood!!!
ReplyDeletePhil would have loved the military museum....me as well. He is a museum buff and remembers so much of it. Glad you had a nice time away together. I like your Forrest Gump Running shirt! Yep, it fits you perfectly. :-}
ReplyDeleteAh this post made my heart happy! I would go back to New Orleans in a heartbeat..the culture is so rich and fun! I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves! :)
ReplyDeleteIt really is such an awesome place. We loved it. :)
DeleteThat sounds like such an amazing trip! I'd love to visit there someday. Maybe it'll happen after we PCS since we'll be closer.
ReplyDeleteI love taking these getaway trips. We don't do them often enough!
ReplyDeleteNew Orleans is a cool town. You really managed to see a lot on your visit. The cathedral at night is beautiful. Great picture!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip! Your pictures are great. It's on my list of places to see...someday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip! I've never been to New Orleans, but it's on my list of places to visit! There's so much there I want to see!
ReplyDeleteThis looked like such a fun trip! It never really appealed to me before, but I might have to rethink it now!
ReplyDeleteI just love New Orleans! I totally agree with you on Voodoo (which is funny because I just posted about that too- haha!). Bummed to hear things went badly with Emeril's restaurant- which one did you try? In any case, it looks like you guys had a great time!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like y'all did it right! We didn't get to go to Cafe Du Monde last time because we went to late and the line was about 4 city blocks long, lol. I've been, but Will never has. Next time!
ReplyDeleteYou did some awesome stuff in New Orleans! I need to go back and do some of those things! estherdavison@gmail.com
