This weekend was jam packed and it was a blast. It was nice to have so many things to occupy my mind in the midst of moving and all that chaos. I spent the day Friday cleaning the house (now that it is empty) and getting things ready for us to move into the hotel on Wednesday.
Saturday morning we got up bright and early to head off to Las Cruces for the Run Then Wine Half Marathon. The weather was hot and humid...therefore I was prime hunting ground for all the lame mosquitos. The run started off good until everyone realized that the distance was way off. When we finished it ended up being 14.6 miles that we ran. Needless to say there were a lot of upset people. It was a poorly organized race and I am not sure how much support it would get next year.

We ran some errands afterwards and then relaxed until heading to post for Oktoberfest. We had a blast!! We met up with our neighbors and a few people that Kyle works with and it was nothing but good times and laughter. I may or may not have had too many shots of jager (I am not a big drinker so this was a stretch for me) but when at Oktoberfest you indulge lol. We got home around 10:30 and went straight to bed since we had a race the next morning.
Sunday morning we had a 5k called the McKelligon Canyon Challenge. A lot of soldiers run this area for PT and let me tell you it is hilly and crazy! I felt crummy when I first woke up but after the race started I felt pretty good. It was a great race and Kyle placed third in his age group. :)
Y'all are awesome!!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a really fun weekend! Even though the first race distance was off, it was still an experience! :)
ReplyDeleteI love a good Oktoberfest! I'm pretty impressed that you attended and then had a race the next day...although giant pretzels make for great carb loading!
ReplyDeleteYou two really are just total rock stars. You definitely motivate me to get my rear end out there and run more!
ReplyDeleteI would have been so update if the 13.1 was really 14.6! Oh man...you're a champ for doing a 5k after a night at Oktoberfest!
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy that your half was 1.5 miles too long. But Oktoberfest looks like a good time!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you do the hills! You are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking you're going to need to add "running" to your blog title soon!! :)
ReplyDeleteOoo how fun!!! Sometimes packed weekends are the best, especially when you are doing so many fun things, and things that involve food :)
ReplyDeleteOk, why exactly is Oktoberfest happening in September????? ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, sounds like a great weekend! Minus the extra 1.5 miles you had to run. Eek. And yay for Jager! haha
ReplyDeleteOh I hate that the distance was off- I always feel the distance is off though hahaha
ReplyDeleteA run then wine race sounds like it would be amazing! It really sucks that it was poorly organized though! Congrats to Kyle!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you all are already closing on the house!!! Also, drinking and then running?! I admire you girl!
ReplyDeleteThat's crummy that the distance on the first race was off. Did you at least get wine afterwards? And wow - good on you for have jager shots and running a race the next day!
ReplyDeleteSuch a full weekend! And I love that so much of what y'all did was very characteristic of being in this area. A great way to kick off your final month in EP!
ReplyDeleteYou're a running machine and I love it!! Good for you still getting up Sunday to run even if you didn't feel very well
ReplyDeleteWhoa! 14 miles? I can understand being off by a tenth or so, but an entire mile? Somebody messed up.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Kyle for his 3rd place award!
Yum! There's an Oktoberfest on post Friday and I really hope we get to go!
