It Was A Good Day Until.....

So yesterday was a huge milestone for me, it was the first time I left E with anyone other than family. A few weeks ago I signed her up for hourly care on post (don't get me started on the government hiring freeze that is closing many of these programs across military bases). I wanted to have her enrolled so that in case I had an appointment, I could drop her off and pay the $4/hour to have a bit of piece of mind. I had a dentist appointment and knew that it probably wasn't a good idea to take her.

So I got her backpack all ready and off we went. She was SO happy to see other kiddos, I sat her down with the other little ones and she immediately started to play. I snuck out of the room and did my best to not burst into tears.

This is exactly how I felt on the inside but I held it together haha!

Once my appointment was over, I raced to get her and found her happily playing with another little girl. She kept handing her toys and laughing. It was the cutest thing. The teacher said she did so good and never cried once. I'm one happy mama! She must have had fun because she slept through our errands and getting taken out/put in her carseat twice.

Ok, so let's talk about the damn dentist appointment. I had a cleaning last year and was told that everything was good. Well, I decided to see a new dentist because the other place just didn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling. Well, according to this dentist, I have 4 impacted wisdom teeth! WTF!? I requested the xrays from the previous dentist and sure enough that's the case. How in the actual hell did they not notice were my new dentists exact words. My new dentist said that it normally wouldn't be a huge issue but the wisdom teeth are slowly shifting the teeth next to them and could cause major issues down the road.

This is how I feel about dentists and this visit just made it worse.

So now this girl gets to have her wisdom teeth removed, woo!!! Thanks old sucky dentist for not doing your job.

Here is hoping that today is better haha. :)

  1. BOO to dentists! I hate going! The first time I went to my last dentist I bled so bad! I have sensitive gums and told them this but they still went crazy. I was bleeding all day and woke up the next morning with a huge blood clot in my mouth ... it was not pleasant!

  2. Oh no! It sucks having your wisdom teeth out, and I can't believe that your other dentist didn't see it earlier! What the hell? At least E had a good time at daycare and was a total champ!

  3. Oh no, how the heck did that dentist miss that? I am going next week, not looking forward to it!

  4. So glad E enjoyed hourly care!! She's precious. I have impacted (I think lol) wisdom teeth too, but they don't hurt so I've never removed them AH!

  5. Oh Sweet Jesus! I completely feel your pain. I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was 31...because they were actually growing in sideways! The dental surgeon I had scraped some nerve endings and I lost feeling in my lower lip for like 4 weeks. Super fun lol. I'm glad you were able to find a dentist who actually knows how to read a freakin' xray!

  7. So glad little E did great while you were out. It's SO hard to leave them!! And girlfriend, I feel your pain on dentist stuff- ever since I got pregnant I've had some rough dental stuff and it is NO fun.

  8. Glad Emmy did great during her first daycare experience. I hate going to the dentist. I always know something is going to be wrong and I'm going to have to spend $$$. Bummer about having your wisdom teeth out. Did you schedule a surgery date?

  10. Last year was the first time I felt pain in oral surgery. I could tolerate it, but I was pissed. Guess who's not going to that dentist this year?

  11. It's REALLY weird that they didn't catch that when you were a teenager. They found mine when I was 12 and then I had them out a few years ago (impacted, full surgery, etc).
Glad hourly care went well for you!

  12. That is great that E did so well! And hats off to you for not breaking down in the parking lot. I have only ever left my kids with my mom, and I think I had a panic attack in the car when we drove away. LOL! I am such a wuss, you should see me on the first day of school. And I can't believe that about your dentist! I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 15 I think...ugh!

And it was always so hard for me to leave my kids.

  14. My mom INSISTED we have our wisdom teeth surgery the month before we turned 18 (and would be kicked off our dad's insurance), and I'm so glad we did! It was way easier to get it over with when we didn't have commitments like a family and school and stuff... not to mention way cheaper too, since my dad had to foot the bill ;)

  15. Bummer that you had bad news that you should have had elsewhere?! No fun but hope it all goes well. Been there, done that! I was married without children, in the AF when I had mine done. Not good then either but at least it was done "free"! Glad E had a good time at the care center and you didn't freak out...yeah, I know how that feels too. But you did it and glad it all worked out ok. Hugs and everything will be ok.

  16. Argh, I hate the dentist! I definitely feel that some just suck and seriously, should have caught that!! I've had mine removed eons ago, not fun. But that's so great that E is happy in day care!!She seems so chilled!

  17. Yay for mommy and Emersyn! Proud of you! It really is hard to leave your kids with new people for the first time, especially if you don't know them. It's such a good idea to start doing it early though in some form or fashion, and that's exactly what you're doing. Great job. :)

  18. I'm so glad E did well with the child care! It's so nice for me to have some alone time but I always rush back and am so happy for pick AB up!

  19. I am a total freak but I LOVE the dentist! In fact, I go more than twice a year for cleaning because I love the way my teeth feel after the fact. I know, I know, I'm weird. But major boo to your old dentist for not catching that! I had them out at a really young age because I had like 3 extra teeth in my mouth (I might be part shark LOL) and it was making the other teeth all messed up. Hooray for E doing well in childcare though :)

  20. I'm so glad that E did so well at daycare! I'm sorry about your teeth though. I would be so mad at my old dentist. Like, how could you mess that up? But I'm glad you're going to be able to get it fixed before it gets worse. Good thing you decided to go to a new dentist!

  21. Good luck with the wisdom teeth! I had mine out in 10th grade and spent the whole week on painkillers. It was great.

  22. Oh that stinks! How could they miss that?

  23. Glad day care went well!

How did the dentist miss 4 impacted teeth?!? Crazy! Good luck that sucks!

  24. Just catching up on what I've missed being away - but that sucks! What an incompetent last dentist. Thank goodness you listened to your gut. I had two of my wisdom teeth out a while ago and it honestly wasn't the nightmare that people said. I had mine under general (I recommend this if you can, especially if you're having all 4 out) and I took the painkillers as directed but got virtually no pain. Maybe I was lucky, but hopefully you will be too!
