Back In The Groove

When I initially hurt my back I was unsure as to when I would be able to get out and really run again. It wasn't even just running, walking up the stairs and even standing up was extremely painful. My doctor suggested low impact exercises like the eliptical and yoga. Believe me when I say that these are not my favorite things to do but I did them. Well, it seemed to do the trick. After a few weeks of that I can run 100% pain free! I will continue to do yoga and the eliptical a few times a week just to ensure that I don't encounter anymore issues.

I'm not going to lie going from running almost daily to not being able to do anything really sucked. Running has been my saving grace for several years and to not have that outlet was hard.

Now that I am getting back into my routine with running I can officially plan for races beyond Disney, which has me really excited. I found a series in Kansas called the Heartland 30k. It's three 10k races back to back to back. Kyle and I are going to do these together and I can't wait.

There are also 2 half marathons that I am planning to run, one in October and another in November. There are several other local 5k races that we plan on participating in. There is a 5k in early May (which will be our 70th race) that we will be running here, it's fun watching my list get longer with the addition of a new event. I know that I will likely to have to get new running shoes because mine are close to being spent, the Saucony Kinvara 8 are calling my name.

Speaking of Disney, my sister and I have put together our costumes for the races and we are so excited! She is still working on a few details on hers (Captain Hook and Wendy) but mine are ready to go. It's going to be so fun to dress up as Peter Pan and Mr. Smee and run through Disneyland/Anaheim.

I hope you all have a great weekend! Not much is planned here except a lot of playtime with E and schoolwork.

  10. I'm glad you're up and running again. Looks like alot of fun runs for you and Kyle and your sister! Keep up with the stretch exercises. I enjoy my Saucony shoee. I found a pair last year as my feet were hurting from standing so much at work. I wear them a couple times a week, when it's not cold. I need to check for another pair when a sale runs on them. Didn't get to go to tea house with my girlfriends last weekend. One friend is having leg issue with her cancer and hopefully soon we can get together for our lunch/tea. I was sick anyway and went to urgent care to get a bit of help...sigh! So much stuff going around but not usually me getting this sick! Happy weekend and hugs!

  11. I am so glad you're running again and I love those costumes for the Disney race! I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago and it still hurts despite resting it. It's been so hard not to do anything! It's really frustrating because I was just feeling the benefits of my workout routine, I had just gotten back into everything when it happened. I love doing yoga though so I am going to go back to it next week.

  14. I am glad you are able to run again! If you like the Wizard of Oz, Garmin offers a variety of distances one weekend in April with an Oz theme in suburban KC. http://ozrun.org/

There are a ton of great races in the KC area. I can't wait to read about your races there. (I am still so envious you get to move there. I miss it so much.)
