For the last few months you have heard me talk about the El Paso Marathon. Well yesterday was finally the day we had been waiting for. We were not able to train as much as we wanted to because of medical reasons but we were damn determined to finish.
This was at the top of the mountain getting ready to start at 7am.
This was at the top of the mountain getting ready to start at 7am.
At the half, I told Kyle to run off ahead of me because his knees were starting to hurt. At the 19 mile mark, I see him at the water station and he waited for me. The exact words that came out of his mouth were "I couldn't imagine finishing this race without you by my side". He is truly amazing!
This was at the 21 mile mark!
Let me just say that no matter how hard you train completing a full marathon is difficult, we had to walk some because of our knees but crossing that finish line is a feeling I will never forget. All I can remember was crumbling into Kyle's arms and crying. We had no goal time at all we just wanted to cross the finish line and we did it in a little over 6 hours. Not the greatest but we don't care.
We did it! No one can ever take that away from us. It was an absolutely incredible feeling. Time to get our tattoos. :)
Congratulations once again! Kyle is such a sweetie waiting to finish with you. My youngest daughter did this as well when we ran the Disney Marathon last year. I had just passed the mile 26 mark and I heard someone from the sidelines call my name. I looked over and there was my daughter, Brooke, who told me she wanted to run hand in hand with me across the finish line. Needless to say I burst into tears. The next few words she said will forever stick with me, "I love you Momma. I can't imagine anything more special than celebrating our marathon finish together." My legs were killing me and I was so dehydrated that I became slightly delirious. But it's an accomplishment and like you I got to share it with someone you love.
ReplyDeleteI'll say it again... so proud of you! Especially after all you've been through the past few months. And seriously, the part about Kyle waiting for you made me tear up. How incredibly sweet of him.

ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS ON FINISHING! I am still training myself. I will be running a 5K on Saturday and I think my first half will be in November. Again, congrats on your marathon! You did awesome!
ReplyDeleteFantastic job! Congratulations! Marathons are tough stuff, and making it through months of training and then the many hours on race day are accomplishments to be proud of! I think it's even harder when it takes you longer to finish. (That's a long time to be on your feet, and the crowd support is less, the aid stations sometimes are out of stuff.) My first marathon finish took over 5:30, so I know the determination it takes to keep going for so long. I'm so excited for y'all! How great that you got to do it together! You can forever call yourselves marathoners!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I can't even imagine the feeling when you crossed the finish line.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!!! Good for you guys, you have to be filled with such an amazing amount of pride, and you did it together which is even better :)
