Well, our weekend didn't start out quite like we thought it would. We got some news from Kyle's work that we had an idea was coming but was finally confirmed.
Kyle and his unit will NO LONGER be deploying to Afghanistan. Now many of you would think I would be jumping up and down but I'm not. I'm sad and disappointed for Kyle and all the soldiers. This is what they have been training for and to have it taken away sucks to say the least. He is angry and I don't blame him. Now I don't want anyone to think that we aren't also happy that he gets to stay home and safe...I don't want him in harms way but I also know that being in the Army means that deployments happen.
He was also told that he will stay in command until our brigade goes away. Right now that will be sometime in early 2015. It is unheard for a company commander to stay around for longer than 12-14 months. He will have 2 years as a commander. He has already submitted the application for his congressional fellowship and the timing couldn't be more perfect if he gets it. He would finish out command and we would report to DC in June 2015. Fingers crossed!
This is proof as to how quickly the Army can change things.
We spent the rest of the weekend relaxing and then Sunday we had our photos taken at this gorgeous place:
We had the best time with Jax and can't wait to see the amazing photos she took.
I hope you all had a great weekend!
Ugh, I'm sorry. I know how frustrating such a decision can be...
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen!
DeleteSweet Jen!! Im so sorry for your husband! Our situation is similar. They had been prepping for deployment to Bahrain... and it is now cancelled. The military life is so confusing some times!! I bet society thinks we are coo-coo for being sad about canceled deployments... but I TOTALLY understand!!! And DC would be super fun!! Fingers crossed for that!
ReplyDeleteIt really is confusing sometimes and I will never understand why certain decisions are made.
DeleteI'm sorry he's disappointed. I hope though, that you got to enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a bummer to train and then not go, but I'm glad you guys seem to be able to positively roll with all these punches!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the photos! Bummer about the deployment.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for Kyle, but am happy for you since the hubs gets to stay here with you! :) Cant wait to see your new photos! :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I think our husbands *might* be in the same brigade, but we haven't heard anything about this yes. Just a lot of rumors. (But you know how rumors are!)
ReplyDeleteThinking of you guys. Sending along a big sorry hug for kyle, that must be really tough for him. And of course I am sending you a hug because you get to stay with him! I am glad the rest of the weekend was fun and relaxing for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Courtney! He is slowing moving past it and working towards new goals with his soldiers.
DeleteIt would be really disappointing to have worked so hard and gotten all ready to deploy only to be told you aren't going. Maybe it's some kind of blessing in disguise.
ReplyDeleteSending hugs to the both of you!!!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteDC sounds SO MUCH better than Afghanistan!! Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteAw, I totally get why Kyle would be disappointed. But, I agree with Ashley - maybe it is a blessing in disguise?? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your hubby... but I'm glad that he'll be home with you instead of in Afghanistan!
ReplyDeleteAw, sorry friend! You're right, life of the Army! Hope the rest goes as planned.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how the pictures turned out!!
I remember how upset my brother-in-law was when his last deployment was cancelled. His unit was supposed to have replaced Mac's unit. But at least he gets some great experience in command!
ReplyDeleteThat is so frustrating! Kyle and his guys must feel so defeated after all the hard work, physically an mentally to prepare.
ReplyDeleteI hope your pictures came out great, I am sure they look amazing!
Those who aren't in the military would think the soldiers would be happy about that news, but I totally understand that they aren't.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting that in active duty commanders don't stay longer than 12-14 months. In the Reserves they stay a minimum of two years unless something happens and they get relieved or promoted. Very interesting!
I'm sure your pictures will turn out amazing!
WOW! so-- you two get to stay together?!?! i'm sorry he's angry but just remember things work out how they are supposed to!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the band field is a lot different than the other Army, but most band people always saw their deployments as futile. I am glad that Kyle doesn't deploy, even though a lot of training and preparation seems to be for naught now. Can't wait to see the pictures, and I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed for DC!!!
ReplyDeleteBeing an Army Wife too I do understand the let down that happens when they don't deploy. My husband ended up on Rear D last deployment and he hated it!
ReplyDeleteMy brother in law was in the Army and he use to say all the time that he wanted to go to Afghanistan. It of course would crush all of us back home when he would say that. We didn't want him to go, but like you said it's what they train for. He wanted to fight. But to a family thousands of miles away that is a scary scary thought. Thankfully he never went. South Korea was as far away as he got from us.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the cancellation.....the hubs had that happen to him a few months ago and he was sooo disappointed. I hope that yours ends up a blessing!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm relieved and happy to hear it! Hope his frustration eases soon though! ;-)

It's definitely understandable that he would be angry. I'm glad you guys get to spend the time together though
ReplyDeleteGo Army! I totally understand what you are saying! Sucky deal but it is what it is... the ever changing life of army! Sounds like some exciting changes coming!
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy that it got cancelled but the long command time will look so good on his resume!
ReplyDeleteAww gah! wow that is crazy!! I bet that hardly ever happens!! Most of the time they're ready to send them overseas!!
ReplyDeleteOops. I guess I should have read about the cancelled deployment first. Sorry that it's disappointing. I totally understand that side of it. THAT is their job after all, so to have the opportunity taken away, sucks.
ReplyDeleteI understand the mixed emotions over a cancelled deployment! We will still be in dc for a year if yall come in 2015, so that will be fun!
ReplyDeleteAw, I'm sorry hun, I can imagine how that decision would have its pros and cons. But yay for DC in 2015, maybe we could meet up for lunch for one day! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that Kyle won't be in danger but I can understand how disappointed the soldiers are. I'll be praying that he gets the fellowship in DC!
ReplyDeleteI know you're disappointed, but at the same time I'm sure you're a bit relieved. We just got unofficial news we may be moving, which means that he may not be deploying next year as planned. I'm elated!
ReplyDeleteWow, big news. I'm glad he's staying safe at home, but it's hard to prepare for something so much only to have it disappear. :/
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear Kyle and his soldiers are disappointed. I know my husband would feel the same way. Glad you both get to stay together though! :)
