I swear it feels like the weekends go by way too fast!
Saturday morning we got up bright and early to head off to "the box" tour. This is a tour that Kyle's work does every quarter so family members and locals from the community can come see what JRTC (joint readiness training center) does.

I have to say that I was blown away (pardon the pun), I know what Kyle does but seeing the demonstrations and the cities that have been built to simulate conflict situations is incredible! It was such an intense experience and one that I won't soon forget. We only got to see 1 of the several cities that have been built for training purposes. The role players that are involved and everything that goes into this training facility is remarkable.
People were able to walk through the buildings and talk to the role players and see firsthand what the OCTs (observer, coach trainer) and units go through during rotations was pretty awesome. They had vehicles out for you to look through and climb in plus weapons you could shoot. I took my chance to shoot a .50 caliber machine gun, it was impressive and awesome!
After the tour we were starving so we headed off to a place called J&T's Crawfish Shack, it is literally a shack with a few tables. We ended up with 5 pounds of crawfish and it was soooo good!!!
After we ran a few errands we headed home to relax and I made homemade beignets..so good!!! I got the recipe from Jen and they were divine! I will definitely be making these more often.
Sunday, I sent Kyle off to go golfing so I could do laundry and clean the house. However, he ended up having to go into work for a few hours which is not uncommon anymore. It was a great weekend, glad we had much needed time together before he is in the field for the next 3 weeks. It was a great mix of fun and relaxation.
I hope you all had a great weekend!
You look pretty bad ass with those weapons!!! Crawfish!!! Yes!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks friend! It was a cool experience.
DeleteHow fun that you got to go see what Kyle does!! That's really awesome! :)
ReplyDeletehow neat!!
ReplyDeleteIt really was!
DeleteI love beignets, yummy!! It is really cool that you were able to go see all that Kyle does! :)
ReplyDeleteOh they were so good!!!
DeleteSounds like y'all had a great weekend! I always like going and checking out what the military base by us does when they open it to the public!
ReplyDeleteI think it's neat that they give tours since everyone goes to JRTC but families don't know much about it. I admit that Scott had nothing good to say about the place, but he was also in Louisiana in August so I that was a big part of it.
ReplyDeleteNot everyone can say they've shot a machine gun. Ha! That's cool actually. I think I'd have mixed feelings on the simulation...pride, cool-factor, and a little scary mixed up in there too.
ReplyDeleteWeekends definitely go by so quickly! How is that even possible!
ReplyDeleteMan Leesville is stepping up their A-game. A crawfish shack? There used to only be like two restaurants down there! Your beignets look good!
ReplyDeleteHaha yup! It was a really good place.
DeleteThat is so crazy, seeing those pictures is cool since Chris was at JRTC just last year!! What a fun weekend.
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic that you got to see what Kyle does! Sounds like a really good way to spend a Saturday!
ReplyDeleteIt was an amazing experience!
DeleteI would love the beignets. Love those things!
ReplyDeleteCrawfish. I'll pass. I don't eat seafood, but my husband likes it.
The beignets were so good! I'm making them again tomorrow.
DeleteThe weekends always do fly by way too fast!! So cool that you got to experience JRTC. When John got back last year and was explaining it to me, it sounded like a really cool place/experience.
ReplyDeleteThat's so near that you got to see what it was like! Sounds like a wonderful weekend!! :)
ReplyDeletethe weekends are flying by lately! The box tour is an interesting one for sure. Yummy Mudbugs! I will miss them. Yummy Beignets! I will need to try that recipe.
ReplyDeleteThe box tour was a great experience!
DeleteWow! What a neat way to see what Kyle does! And now I'm craving crawfish! Unfortunately I don't think any place around here has them....
ReplyDeleteDid you ever go to Molly Pitcher Day? It was really cool to see that in action. Sadly, they don't do something like that here.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! I wish they could do something like this at my husband's squadron.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting photos! As Dane heads off to JRTC in a couple weeks, it was cool to see what he will actually be doing! Wish I could come with him and hang out with you :)
ReplyDeleteThose crawfish look delicious! I'm so jealous!
ReplyDeleteDang! I am not sure I would have the guts to try the machine gun. :)
ReplyDeleteOh beignets...how I love thee. I love that the Army gives the community a glimpse into training. I think it promotes awareness. Here, they let us go to the flight simulators, so I think we are doing date night at the simulators Friday!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! I love seeing behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's so neat you were able to see that. I'm super jealous of you shooting the .50cal. I've been wanting to do that forever. Sounds like an awesome weekend!
