Changing My Routine

I feel like lately I have been in a rut in both daily life and working out. My daily life is consumed with school and the winter just really got me down (I was a cranky mess yesterday lol). I am so glad that we are having more sunny days and I can spend more time outside, especially with it getting darker later now.

When it comes to working out I really slacked on keeping up with running. I knew that something had to change and thanks to Kyle I finally figured it out. I was focusing too much on running and not getting a full body workout. On Monday, I was up at 4:30am to go to the gym with him. His current job doesn't have standard unit PT (Physical Training) so he does it on his own. This means an hour at the gym and a run afterwards.

I felt fantastic afterwards!!! From now on I will be at the gym at 5am 3x a week and then focusing solely on running 3x a week. I always feel the best when I workout and I'm hoping this causes a shift for me. I have the time to do so I just need to buckle down.

Do you change up your routine when you are in a funk??

Happy Wednesday!

  2. Wow! 5 am? I am not sure I could get up that early! That's it...you've totally inspired me to switch up my routine next month because I am way too bored with what I have right now.

  3. I have started cross training as well. It is tough for me to remember to do it, but I do find it helps my running. I only run three times a week, and I do some form of cross training 6 days a week.

  4. I still don't have a real routine yet and the baby is almost 9 months old. Each day is a new adventure. The only thing that is still the same is the the 4 am alarm where I get up with the husband.

  5. I have a non-existent work out routine. Chris has asked me for 10 years to go to the gym with him, it has yet to happen. Lol! I totally admire people that can get their butts to a gym...I just run around after my crazy zoo like animal children ;)

  6. YES. I find that a shake-up is in order as soon as I feel in a rut. I've been doing 30 minutes of Pilates 4x a week and then going to a class that mixes strength training and cardio once a week. Though, this week I went to kettlebell and it's a fantastic full-body workout. Could you find a class like that?

  7. I've started walking about a mile for about 20 minutes in the middle of my workday. It really helps when I'm feeling restless/overwhelmed.

  8. It's funny you are writing about this because I have totally been in a funk lately! I'm bored with my workouts but limited with the time and at home resources. I finally started to mix it up and using Hubby's resistance bands has helped. I'm hoping the 5k does the same thing!

  9. Lol I haven't been to the gym in awhile lameeeee. Probably need to do that. On the plus side, I've lost like 20 lbs since I started my whole "omg I got married and I'm turning into a blob this must end" thing. Which is yayyyyy

  10. Smart thinking by your hubby. I've read that whenever you're in a rut, changing up your workout is the key to success!

  11. Good for you! I'm in a rut, but I can't get my husband to go to the gym with me. I don't want to go by myself (gyms intimidate me, maybe because I've never actually been to one).

  14. I don't have much of a routine other than making sure I work out 6 days a week . My routine changes depending on the time of year and whether it's warm enough for me to do much running outside or not. I try to run 3 days and lift/cross train 3 or 4 days. Changes in routines are good sometimes and help keep my motivation up. Good for you getting up at 5 am!

  16. Sounds like a good change! I liked the mix of classes at the post gyms. They were a good way to beat that funk of working out every day.
