We headed off to Houston on July 6th, our first stop was the USS Texas and the San Jacinto Memorial! Kyle and I love exploring battleships and taking in all of the history. It was a great way to kick off our adventures in Houston.
The second day we spent it at the Zoo, Aquarium, and the Kemah Boardwalk. We walked around enjoying the beautiful weather at the Zoo. It was incredible, if you are ever in the area this zoo is a must! It is a 55 acre zoo and the grounds are stunning.
The Kemah Boardwalk was a lot of fun. It had restaurants, an arcade, rides and it was situated right on the water. It was gorgeous! We played some games (of course I came home with random stuffed animals haha) and rode an awesome wooden rollercoaster.
Wednesday we spent the day at Schlitterbahn in Galveston Island. We have been to the original in New Braunfels and it was so much fun! They had approximately 15 water slides and 2 lazy rivers. The highest slide was 81 feet high and intense. We were exhausted by the time the day was over and slept like rocks that night.
Thursday, we were off to NASA! Wow it was incredible! The highlight for me was being able to see the original Mission Control. Seeing where 41 missions were controlled to include all of the Apollo missions was truly amazing. We spent the day exploring and feeling like we were a part of history. If you have a chance to go, do it! You won't be disappointed.
Afterwards our last stop was Seawolf Park in Galveston. The USS Cavalla is here which is the submarine that sunk the Japanese air craft carrier that led the attack on Pearl Harbor. We also figured out that Kyle could never be in the Navy, he is way too big for those tiny hallways on submarines haha. :)
You did have a lot of happy running around!! And did you say 81ft. for a waterslide??????????????????? Oh no, I wouldn't. ;)
ReplyDeleteThose are some amazing things to visit! I wish I had known about the water park when we made our first trip to Houston. We love visiting historical places like battleship. Sounds and looks like you two had a great start to block leave!
ReplyDeleteSo fun!!! I enjoyed following along via instagram!! :)
ReplyDeleteWow - you guys didn't waste a minute! So many fun things - and a 55 acre zoo sounds HUGE. Much bigger than our rinky dink one in Buffalo.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read about part 2!
This looks like SO SO much fun!!! You saw and did a lot - good for you.
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a wonderful time, lady!!! You guys did so much fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like the best trip ever! NASA?! So awesome, and I really want to go to schlitterban, I just need to wait until my kids are a little bit bigger.
ReplyDeleteHouston is a bit of drive from OKC but its doable. Now thanks to you, I want to go do those things too. Especially the water park. I love those!

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome stop! I'm still sad I never got to take SoldierMan to Schlitterbahn while we were in Texas. Oh well, one day!

ReplyDeleteIt looks like you two had a lot of fun!!
ReplyDeleteYou guys packed in a lot of really fun stuff!! And water slides, love them!!
ReplyDeleteI am taking note of all these places. If we end up in Texas again (which is a good possibility), we plan on taking a weekend trip to Houston. I know Eric would love to see Johnson Space Center. We live a few hours from Kennedy, and we still haven't seen it. His dream is to be an astronaut.
ReplyDeleteIve been following some of the adventures on instagram, but wow- yall sure did fit a lot in! So fun to take advantage of all that a place has to offer!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know there was more than one Schlitterbahn. I went to the one in New Braunfels probably 20 years ago (holy cow! Time flies!), but I'd love to go back and drag Stephen along with me.
ReplyDeleteLooks busy and fun. I went to Houston when I was like 16 and don't remember much except it rained a lot one day and flooded where we were staying. Haha.
ReplyDeleteLooks like y'all had a great trip! And the first director of the Houston space center (Chris Kraft) was a Hokie!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an amazing trip!!!! I would love to explore a battleship someday!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great trip!
