Thanksgiving Meal Planning

As of yesterday Kyle is back to work, don't get me wrong I loved having him around but 3 weeks together is a lot lol. I am happy to say that he is already loving it.

I have spent the last few days getting our Thanksgiving menu and Christmas cards prepped. I'm definitely early with the cards but am so happy they are finished so all I have to do it put them in the mail when the time comes.

For our Thanksgiving menu this year it is going to be relatively simple. Since we just moved to Louisiana we won't be with family this year so a simple meal is perfect:

Turkey (I always cook mine in a turkey bag, it cuts down the cooking time drastically)
Mashed potatoes ( I am going to try this recipe this year Carnation Mashed Potatoes)
Gravy ( I use a recipe that my Mom used)
Stuffing (I am going to try this recipe)
Rolls (I am obsessed with this recipe and will probably have to make 2 batches! classic dinner rolls)

Now for dessert I was unsure what I wanted to do. I'm not a big fan of apple pie and I don't like pumpkin pie (yes I know I'm weird) so I went for something Kyle and I would both like:

Ree Drummond's Grasshopper Pie

Doesn't this look amazing?! I can't wait!

I am looking forward to our quiet Thanksgiving.

What are your plans this year?

  1. Looks like a yummy menu! We are going to my aunt's house. She likes to cook for her college age son when he comes home from school. We'll take a nice hike with Brian's family early in the day too. I don't feel so guilty about eating everything!!!

Oh and I totally get what you're saying about 3 weeks together. Brian and I can barely take 1 day off together with out wanting to kill one another.

  2. Scott always makes the turkey in a bag too! Our new oven as a "perfect turkey button" so we'll see how that works out…
I'm making a giant cake for Scott's birthday on the 26th, so we probably won't do a separate dessert for Thanksgiving…since we're on our own too. Wouldn't it be fun if we were stationed in the same place….

  3. I had my Christmas cards all done the first week of November. They came in the mail yesterday haha. This will be the first year we're staying home and I'm cooking all of Thanksgiving dinner. I'm kind of excited about it. We're inviting one family over so it should be fun but still pretty low key.

  9. You are so on the ball! That menu sounds amazing! I just started working on our Christmas cards. It's taking forever, but it'll be worth it in the end.

  12. For the first time since we're back in Germany I won't host, and I have to admit, I am relieved. It would have been quite stressful taking care of the entire dinner plus the baby. This year, friends of ours are hosting and we will bring a side or two and probably a pie (or two). Is the green in your pie mint? I somehow don't like mint and chocolate, unless it's After Eight chocolate leaves.. I'm weird, too :-)

  13. I was just talking to Chris about our menu this year, in hopes that we could scale it down a bit since we are in a different house with one oven. But no such luck, he wants huge feast so I am trying to prep what I need to cook the day before and then day of. Ugh! LOL :)

  15. It's going to be a quiet year for us too. First year we won't have guests. I feel a little paralyzed - I don't know how to NOT make Thanksgiving for a houseful!
