Another weekend done and we are that much closer to getting out of El Paso!
Friday afternoon we decided to get tattoos that we have been wanting for a while. Kyle got the Norse symbol for invincibility in battle and I got this:
The pregnancy and infant loss ribbon with 5 little hearts springing out to represent the babies we have lost. I am so happy with how it turned out!

We had a low key night so we could get ready for our half on Saturday morning. This was our 23rd race of the year.
We were up bright and early (4:30am to be exact) and headed off for the race. For those that are not familiar with Transmountain in El Paso please google it because this mountain is a beast. The race starts on the West side of the mountain and the race goes up and over so you finish on the East side. The elevation at the top is 5280 feet, yeah needless to say it's insane.
This race was my first half marathon last year and I was so happy to run it with Kyle. When I ran it last year I had just gone through treatment for an ectopic pregnancy and I had a sinus infection but I ran it anyway. My goal was to finish in under 3 hours this year because it is a really taxing run. I finished in 2 hour and 55 minutes (Kyle finished in 2 hours and 12 minutes show off lol).
We both had an awesome time and I ran the last few miles with a super nice Air Force LTC, I love that running introduces you to some pretty cool people.

The great thing about this race is that it's the first year it has been sponsored by Spartyka so a portion of the proceeds were donated to the wounded warrior project! :) Now it's time to get ready for our last race in El Paso in two weeks, the Flying Horse Half Marathon.
seems like a fun weekend. i hope your Monday goes well :) you are strong to be able to get that tattoo. i know it means a lot to you and thank you for sharing your journey with that with us. *hugs*

ReplyDeleteGreat race! Your tattoo is so pretty
ReplyDeleteEven though I wished you hadn't have to go through all the pain of losing your little babies, the tattoo is still beautiful and a worthy memorial for your sweet little ones.
ReplyDeleteThe run sounds really hard, kudos for finishing, and meeting your goal as well. Can't wait to hear about your next race!
Have a wonderful week, dear Jen!!

ReplyDeletesounds like a fantastic weekend <3 i adore your tattoo!
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed that you got your new ink the night before a half. Did the tattoo bother you during Transmountain? I just remember fussing with ointment and plastic wrap on my tattoo in the middle of marathon training.
ReplyDeleteI love the new name and the new look! What a great name for your blog :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed by all of the marathons you're doing! Incredibly awesome. I tried a half marathon (just power walking) and it nearly killed me. I like the 5ks. Maybe someday I'll try the half marathon again.
That's such a beautiful tattoo.

ReplyDeleteLove the tattoo.
ReplyDeleteOh Jen, my heart caught in my throat at the tattoo. Not sure why it affected me so, but I wish.. I don't know what I wish. I wish you hadn't lost any children, that's what I wish. But you're already a good mommy, giving tribute to your five little ones. When your time comes, I'm going to be so so so happy too.
ReplyDeleteLove the new blog look and love the new ink!! So meaningful and beautiful and perfect. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the race! My goal would have just been to cross the finish line.
ReplyDeleteLove your tattoo! So meaningful too. I've got the ink-bug lately too, thinking I might have to make a trip to the shop before we leave the US.
ReplyDeleteHello Jen! It has been a few weeks since I have stopped by, but I LOVE your new renovation. I also wanted to let you know how extremely moved I was reading about your tattoo. It is beautiful, and YOU are a strong woman. I hope you have a great weekend!
