Oh The Possibilities!

Over the next 6 months to a year things will be changing drastically for us (and about 3500 other soldiers). With the deactivation of my husbands unit our future is in sort of a limbo state. He is still a company commander but he will be losing the majority of his company relatively soon. With how specialized they are most will be going to other units quicker than we expected.

As far as his career path there are several options out there:

A) Kyle gets selected for one of the fellowships he applied for. This would take us to Washington D.C.

B) He does not get selected for a fellowship but gets selected for Major on his first look at the end of the year. Which means we could go to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

C) If he isn't selected for a fellowship and doesn't make Major on his first look, we will most likely try to go back to Bragg. He would love nothing more than to gain his Master Wings (60 jumps) since he already has his Senior Wings.

I'm not going to lie I do miss the maroon beret. ;)

While there are many unknowns as this point, we will just buckle up and hang on. Whatever this life has to throw at us we will just keep on going. :) I'm excited to see where this journey takes us, it's always an adventure.

Hope you all have a great day!

  1. Hope it all works out soon! I know how annoying it can be to wait around for word to come down.

  2. I miss the maroon beret too! At CCC, they don't even wear berets and now Scott doesn't wear a uniform at all because he's in school…
I'm working on a post about our possibilities too. So many, yet so few, right?

  3. Gotta love Army purgatory! My husband's unit just deactivated as well and he went down to his new unit yesterday... now to wait in line for his own platoon! My fingers are crossed for you!

  4. I know the waiting isn't any fun, we have been there too. But all of your options sound like great ones! Can't wait to see where the Army takes you guys (maybe we will be in the same place again one of these days!)

  5. As long as you have each other you will flourish wherever you land. Hopefully you will find out soon where this journey will take you.

  6. I'll be thinking about you my friend! I'm sure it will all work out and those are 3 great cities so I wouldn't worry about it too much!

  7. So exciting. I hate the waiting game, but it's fun to think of what's to come. Unfortunately for us we will not be moving anytime soon (unless we are surprised), but I still dream of the text/call from my husband telling us where we will start the next chapter. :D

    1. Kyle is itching to jump again haha. You can take the soldier out of airborne but you can't take the airborne out of the soldier. :)

  10. I both love and hate all the unknowns and possibilities of military life. On the one hand, there's an adventure in it and you might end up somewhere you wouldn't have chosen for yourself but end up liking (like Bliss!). On the other hand, I'm a planner and the uncertainty grates on me. Whatever the future holds for y'all, I hope it's what you want!

    1. We love it here at Bliss too so it will be bittersweet to leave. I'm excited to see what is next for us. :)

  13. Army life is nothing if not exciting! Ryan and I got early initial orders to Hohenfels back in November prior to WOCs, but we found out a few weeks later that his unit was being deactivated. Now we have orders to Drum next January, but who knows? It could all change in a heartbeat haha Good luck to you guys!

  15. Wow! You really do have big changes in store! I hope you get the one you want most. ;-)

  16. That would make me so anxious! If you end up at Ft. Leavenworth, you will be near my hometown. :)

  17. I vote Leavenworth. Cause I"ll be at Riley and I'm selfish like that, haha.

I can't wait to see which option pans out for you guys!

  19. We are losing a brigade here too. Luckily most will get absorbed into one of the other ones here. The guy that is replacing my spouse, when we PCS, is from the brigade that is getting deactivated.

  20. Having all of these options scares me and excites me at the same time! Hold off on Leavenworth for just a few more years! LOL just kidding. We should be headed there just after Hawaii. Hopefully! Has he looked into the foreign courses at all? John seems slightly interested in those as well. Good luck with getting chosen for the fellowship!! I seriously hope that works out for you! John wants to do that too.

  21. Other then the fact that he is losing the company quickly....I think they all sound pretty good! I hope the one you and him really want happens!!! :)

  22. Choices...choices!!! We are in the same boat with different options, each one taking us on a crazy path, but only the army knows our future. haha!!!

  23. Funny, even when you get used to the big question mark that is the future in the Army, doesn't make it any easier. Hope you get some concrete answers soon!

  24. DC would be so cool! My hubs is dying to get us there.

  25. If you come to DC... that means that we will be able to hang out!!!! I'm a train ride away. But hoping the best for you guys! xoxo

  30. my husband's unit is also deactivating in just over a year, though most of the folks will probably be gone by the end of this year (not us). i wish he had more career options, but chances are pretty high he'll end up back in a kind of crappy job in MD. keeping my fingers crossed that the OTS boards are re-activated soon and that he gets picked up! can't wait to see where you guys go--i know you'll do awesome wherever you end up. :)

  31. Love the maroon beret. :) And love your attitude, as always, Jen. I know you just bought you house. I hope you write more about how you feel about the possibility of leaving it. BTW, I'm originally from Kansas, not too far from Leavenworth!

    1. :) The thought of leaving the house is a bummer but it's okay. :) We have gone back and forth on what we would do. I think we have decided to sell it when the time comes.
