Yesterday was one of the most amazing and challenging days of my life. I completed the TransMountain Challenge Half Marathon. This course was indeed a challenge.
It started at 7am on the west side of town and we had to run OVER a mountain (there is a road that goes from the west side of the mountain to the east side of the mountain). After mile 2 it was ALL uphill until mile 8 and then it started to go down. I'm not going to lie to you and say that I ran the whole thing, there were 2 miles that I didn't run because it was brutal. Everyone at the finish line said they walked at some point during the uphill portion. I had no time goal, I just wanted to finish and I did. I'm thankful to Kyle for being an amazing motivation and support through text messages. He kept telling me I could do it and that he was proud of me. Seeing the finish line brought a huge sigh of relief.
When I crossed that finish line the emotions came. I was so proud that I did such a challenging half marathon for my first. I have overcome so much medically in the last month and to complete this is an amazing feeling.

Wow! That sounds tough. I would have cried going uphill for so long. Congratulations and good luck on the next one!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a job well done! There is no shame in walking especially with all you have been through. I still walk every half I do and I am on number 20. Make sure you take some time to recover before your next half. So glad Kyle could be there for you even if it was through text.
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Chris!!! :) Wow 20?! You are amazing!!!
DeleteWell done! I actually have never ran a marathon before but I'm trying to get fit and healthy so that might be in the cards in the near future! Mandy xx MakeMeUpMandy

ReplyDeleteYou are awesome!! Congratulations :) That sounds super hard & you DID IT!!!!! Proud of you.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine your emotions come over you when you crossed that finish line. My sister was part of a running group. We were all there for her when she did her first 5k & I got all emotional. She trained for it, it was not the path they thought they were going to run so it was much tougher, but she finished with an awesome time. I was holding back the tears.
That is amazing! You are hardcore!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! A half marathon is a huge accomplishment! Not to mention, this was your first(!) and the course was incredibly difficult. When I did the 5k in McKelligon a few weeks ago, you better believe that I took walk breaks! Hats off to all who did 13.1 on that course!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if you said you are going to do the full in February or not. If you are, would you be interested in doing some long runs together? I'm trying to round up some people to run with on Sundays so I'm not out there doing big distances solo. Think about it and let me know if you are interested!
Thanks so much Amy! The course was incredibly intense, everyone I talked to said they walked at one point or another. :)
DeleteThat would be great, I would love to run together! After our 2nd half on the 26th I'll be back into training mode for the full so I would love it. :)
So happy for you!
