Krispy Kreme Challenge

I was going to recap our whole weekend but instead I just want to recap the Krispy Kreme Challenge.

A little background on it, this event originated in 2004 by a dozen NC State college students. Due to the positive coverage that it received they decided to turn it into a yearly event that benefits charity. The allocated charity is the North Carolina Children's Hospital. Surprisingly enough it is not affiliated with the company at all.

My goodness, what an experience! We were up bright and early on Saturday morning to head to Raleigh. It was freezing, I think it was 32 degrees at the start. I was pushing E so Kyle could participate in the challenge.

There were 3 levels of participants:

Challenge- Run 2.5 miles, eat 12 donuts, run another 2.5 all under 1 hour.

Casual Runner- You get donuts but don't have to eat them on the course.

No donut- pretty sure this is self explanatory.

The race kicked off right at 8am and we were happy to get moving. We, along with about 5,000 others were off and running. Kyle went ahead of us so he could make it to the half way point pretty quickly to pick up and start eating his donuts. When E and I finally got to him, he had about 7 donuts left to eat. Watching all of the challengers scarf down their donuts was pretty comical.
It took him about 20 minutes to eat the donuts, which honestly I don't even know how he did it haha! He was a champ.

He finished up the last donut and took off. The challengers had to run through a separate chute to turn in their empty box before they headed back on the course. It was a bit harder for me to weave through all the people with a stroller but it was still a lot of fun. I could see Kyle ahead of us and he was making great time. I could also tell that he was struggling haha which was pretty understandable.

He crossed the finish line in 57:43! He completed the challenge! I came in not far behind him. E as usually was a trooper and had a ball saying hi to all the runners.
I immediately asked Kyle how he was feeling, haha. He laughed and said, "that was a really terrible idea" haha! He is happy that he did it though. Bucket list item checked off.
Overall, it was a really cool experience and we were happy to see that over $190,000 was donated to the North Carolina Children's Hospital.

If you're in the area next February, definitely participate! We will definitely do it again but likely just as casual runners haha.
