Saturday we completed our 2nd mud run in a row. This one was held on post and was called "The Old Ironsides Mud Challenge". Instead of the normal 5k it was a 4 mile run with 13 obstacles. It had a few muddy obstacles but the reason we look so clean in the end picture was because of the 30 foot ice water trench. Haha. To say that water was cold is a complete understatement, it was frigid! The obstacles were no joke either, they used the Air Assault course and used/or modified some of the obstacles. There was one called the "Barricades of Bliss" it was 50 barricades that you had to climb over. Ugh that was brutal.
Since this was the first annual event instead of medals they gave out t-shirts to the first 500 finishers. We finished in a little under an hour which I thought was pretty good.
My adrenaline was still going when we finished so I didn't notice this until we got home. Yeah my knee is a little sore haha. It was worth it though, we had a great time.
Next Saturday is our 3rd and final mud run in Las Cruces, NM.
I am starting to realize how much I love running. It's relaxing and something that I can do whenever I feel like it. Since doing these mud runs hasn't quite been crazy enough we signed up for the Fort Bliss 10 Miler in August. It gives me plenty of time to train and get where I want to be. I'm not aiming to be the fastest, I just want to keep a good pace and finish.
The rest of our weekend has been relaxing and low key which has been great. We did some shopping after the run and had a yummy lunch at Olive Garden, can't go wrong with soup, salad and breadsticks. Yesterday, we were completely lazy which is just what we needed.
I hope you all had a great weekend!
Its like 30 degrees here in Indiana and your talking about running through water - now I'm even colder than I was. Haha!
ReplyDeleteWAY TO GO!!! So darn proud of you!
ReplyDeleteYay! Good job! It was abnormally chilly here on Saturday and there was a mud run here as well. I kept tracking the pictures and just had to laugh that they were doing that is 40 degree weather. It made my decision to not sign up the right one. Ha good job!
ReplyDeleteWow -- 10 miles?! Go You! Sounds like your mud run this weekend went awesome, though!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like fun, minus your knee - ouch! I'm glad you two are having so much fun doing these!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome day - congrats! And I hope your knee is feeling better. I feel the same way about running. It's something I can do anytime, and I always feel that I'm more motivated and excited when I have a race on the horizon. Great job!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! Im so proud of you!!!! :) I had Olive Garden for lunch yesterday! So delicious!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are on a roll! Woohoo! Glad you had fun!

ReplyDeleteYou have been kicking serious butt! It's nice to hear that you are falling in love with running. I'm starting to experience that myself. It's hard, but I'm really beginning to enjoy my outdoor runs.

You go girl! I love Mud Runs! I get bored on regular runs so the obstacles keep me interested and I don't realize I've been out for several miles!
ReplyDeleteWow, Jen! Great job! You look amazing, fyi!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like ya'll had a blast!!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Looks like you had fun, though. I've always wanted to start running. My goal is to eventually do the Marine Corps 10K in DC. It's the last 10k of the Marine Corps Marathon that goes past the Pentagon and to the Iwa Jima Memorial.
ReplyDeleteHope your knee gets better soon, that looks nasty! But it sounds like so much fun! I need to check if there are some mud runs around here!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! :) I hope you can find one, they are so fun!
DeleteWonder if my husband would ever want to do a mud run. I know I can't do them with my health issues but they sound like lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your race! estherdavison@gmail.com :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a blast!!! I am jealous :) Looks like you had a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteThat is a big boo boo! They did a Dirty Bird Challenge here a month ago and from what I saw it was muddy and 40 degrees. But they had a blast!
ReplyDeleteYou look so skinny in that pic!
ReplyDeleteLook at you go! COngrats!
ReplyDeleteWoah nicely done!!!! The second one with the obstacles sounds like so much fun!! I would totally be into that! So glad you guys had fun!!
ReplyDeleteWow....congrats on finishing the race through all the obstacles as well as running. Owie on your knee. Hope it heals up for the run in LC. We used to live there. Get some aloe vera gel and put on the bruises, that really helps.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend, I worked on packing for my trip the end of this week. Almost done, except for clothes and a few last minute items to pack at 0 dark thirty in the a.m. before I leave with teammate and his wife to the airport.
Take care!
"Final" haha I doubt it ;)
ReplyDeleteGirl, you are rocking it!
ReplyDeleteEven covered in mud, you two are adorable. :-)

ReplyDeleteI was actually driving through post while the race was going on, and it looked like everyone was having so much fun! Glad y'all enjoyed yourselves!
ReplyDeleteThe 10 miler sounds like a good time, too. I'm contemplating signing up, but I'm worried that it's gonna be hot as Hades in August!
Haha that's awesome! It was so fun! :) The 10 miler is at 7am so hopefully it won't be too hot at first. :)
DeleteWow, well done! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun (minus the knee)! I'd love to do some mud runs, but I'm pretty sure this Texas girl would freeze in the water pits here!
