Yesterday Kyle and I met up with his old NCO to have lunch. He is doing some training at Bliss for a month, so we definitely wanted to see him. We finished up lunch and headed to the car where we saw an MP writing down information as he was standing behind our car. Part of me started to panic because I thought we were getting a ticket for something (lol yes I automatically thought that). When we got closer he asked if it was our car and if the mark on the back left fender was already there. When we told him no he said "Ok we had a witness call saying the vehicle parked next to you hit your car while parking". Say what?! I immediately walked to the front of the SUV and oh yeah you could see where they hit our car.
We had to wait for this person to come out of the PX or wherever they were before we could leave. A few minutes later a gentleman walked over and told us that he was the one who called. We were so appreciative because not many people would take the time to look out for someone else. The MP told us that we had 2 options: A: exchange information with the driver or B: proceed with a case and have them charged with felony hit and run (it's a felony since no note was left after the accident occurred). Of course we opted for A.
Finally, a woman in her 60's came out and said it was her car and proceeded to say that she hadn't hit our car and that the damage to her car was already there. Ummm no lady there is a little bit of my blue paint on your front bumper lol. She was very defensive at first but then finally apologized. We were able to go about our day without a major confrontation. Thankfully the damage to my car is not major, it should hopefully be able to be buffed out *fingers crossed*.
All in all everything ended up ok thanks to the super nice guy who took 5 minutes out of his day to do something helpful.
super nice of that guy to call the MPs for you! glad it all got sorted out pretty simply. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd be such a hot head... how are you going to lie about hitting someone?!
ReplyDeleteI hunted down the guy I backed into! LOL. I didn't feel like leaving a note was good enough.
Wow that is so nice!! Is the lady paying to get your car buffed?
ReplyDeleteOh, no! I am glad you are okay and you were not in the car when it happened. I am also glad there was a witness. There are still some nice people left. Hopefully all it needs is a simple buffing.
ReplyDeleteWow - glad that person called it in.
ReplyDeleteI did something similar. I witnessed a mini van hit a truck in a mall parking ramp and take off. I took the license plate of the mini van and then left a note on the truck saying that the mini van with license plate XXXXXX hit your car and took off. I didn't call the authorities but I did give them the info they needed and my cell # in case they needed the witness.
Oh wow.
ReplyDeleteVery nice of him!
ReplyDeleteso glad the witness called! I have huge scratch on the back of my bumper from someone parking too. :(
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear a story like this today. I slowly lose faith in humanity a little more each day, but people like this bring me back a little at a time.
ReplyDeleteGood for him.
How nice that he called, glad it all worked out for you :)
ReplyDeleteMy parents are dealing with a hit and run now, too! On NYE the neighbors across the street pulled out of the drive and hit our next-door-neighbor's car - it's such a big mess now. I feel your pain!
ReplyDeleteThat is awful! We bumped into someone's car once, and absolutely left a note. I hope it is a really easy fix.
ReplyDeletewhat a lesson, huh?! yes, took 5 minutes out of his day to do the right thing..bet he sleeps better than the person that hit the car!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!
Aww that was awesome of that man! We had a hit and run someone scraped up the front of our car, of course didn't leave a note. :/
ReplyDeleteEek! Glad someone called. I think too many people figure it's no big deal so they don't leave their info. But it's a big deal to the person paying the car payment!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it was a small incident, and it is nice when people take time out to do something nice, expecting nothing in return. It was nice that you guys didn't opt for the second option too.
ReplyDeleteThat was nice of someone to call. Hopefully the damage isn't bad. I've been accused of hitting a car with my door when I know I didn't and it was such an awkward situation.
ReplyDeleteNice to see that people still have other's backs! Hopefully your SUV will be bright and shiny in no time.

Wow, I love these stories. You rarely hear them anymore and it is quite refreshing that there are still people out there like this. Thank you for sharing and I'm glad your car will be fine. ;-)

That was nice of the guy to report it. Im glad the lady decided to take the easier/honest route and fess up plus apologize for her actions. It all worked out in the end!
ReplyDeleteThat's so awesome! I love hearing things like this! Sadly, it's a rare thing these days. Glad everything worked out!
ReplyDeleteThat was really nice of him to take the time to call it in! Most people would just go on with their business. I hope it's an easy fix!
